Seeing the Light

Carlos Santana had a song called "Put Your Lights On" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5a0OAtzrXE).  I have always loved the song, but never thought much about the meaning until I was made aware (enlightened) of A Course in Miracles.  A series of events fell into place that allowed me to have an open mind, put aside some fear and take a chance.  A chance that is changing my thoughts about nearly everything I believed up until then.  To continue the analogy, you can walk into a totally dark room and imagine what might be there, but you really don't know until someone puts the lights on.  Even if it is a room you have been in many times before, you will see things differently in the light than you thought they were while you were in the dark.  So it is with our being.  Something we think we know and are so familiar with suddenly becomes a lot different when we see it with the Light.

I am just beginning to be enlightened, just beginning to understand and be aware.  I chose to modify the familiar saying of "Home is Where the Heart Is" to more what I have come to understand as "Home" - and Home is where the Love is.  The title of this blog is also an acknowledgement of gratitude to my dear friend LP for bringing some Light and some Love into my world at the perfect time when I could receive it.  We all have our definitions of home.  It is not the bricks and mortar, or the dirt they are built upon.  We are all homeless, yet none of us are homeless.  We are homeless because we haven't made it home yet.  But we are not homeless because home is waiting for us.  If we open our mind and follow the course, each of us can find our way home.  And don't we all want to be there?  We do, because home is where the Love is, and that is what we all want when it's all said and done.  In a moment of naked truth and honesty, we would probably all say that the houses, cars, careers, or anything else we think is important, is not.  It is only love that makes us feel complete.

God is Love.  Home is where the Love is.  None of us are homeless if we choose Love.  I am on Lesson 8 of the course.  "My mind is preoccupied with past thoughts."  In this lesson it says "The one wholly true thought one can hold about the past is that it is not here.  To think about it at all is therefore to think about illusions."  The lesson goes on to say "no matter how vividly you may picture a thought, you are not seeing anything."  Wow....we can get so worked up over nothing.  Literally nothing.  Thinking about some wrong in our past can bring about strong reactions.  But the past is not here.  So I must remember not to feel guilty, angry, sad, etc. over nothing.  I must keep the Light on and continue my journey Home - where the Love is.
